SEPTEMBER 2013
Stopping an Oregon Columbia River Crossing Project (CRC) Before a Special Session of the Oregon Legislature

As of this writing, efforts are being made to call a special session of the Oregon legislature on September 30 to fix Oregon's Public Employee Retirement System (PERS).  Some people want to expand the scope of the proposed session to include an "Oregon only" proposal to fund a bridge over the Columbia river.  This bridge would replace the aging one currently straddling Oregon and Washington on Interstate 5.

The proposed project would be similar to the one proposed during the 2013 Oregon legislative session.  While Oregon approved it's portion of bridge expenses during that session, the Washington legislature did not.  Approval from both legislatures was required to get federal funds needed to construct the bridge, so the proposal died.

While FaRPAC supports the concept of a new bridge, neither plans serves the interests of Oregonians or Washingtonians.  The proposed "Oregon only" project, like the one which was rejected, would result in serious traffic problems, tolls, higher taxes, and would force light rail on the citizens of Vancouver, Washington, who do not want it.

To underscore opposition to any "Oregon only" proposal, and make an impression on lawmakers, FaRPAC is funding electionic billboard displays along key highways.  The billboard displays may change from time to time and will be shown on the right hand side of this web page.  For more information on FaRPAC's pas involvement with the CRC project, click on the PAST CAMPAIGNS tab of this website.
